A Real Simple magazine on my Aunt's couch gave its readers 5 ways to make life seem like it was going by slower. With all the hustle and bustle of crazy life, I assumed these five tips would be the same old story; and while a few were (eating family dinners, spend more time outdoors, etc.) there was one that struck me. It was a tip sent in by an english magazine editor who told readers to read poetry. When I think of reading poetry I reminisce back to my senior American lit class in high school and struggling reading the century-old poetry and getting the same meaning as everyone else. I also think of Ryan Gosling in The Notebook reading poetry to rid himself of his stutter (one of the perks of watching so many chick flicks is having these connections always amusing you).
Reading poetry is hard. There are just so many poems out there. Not to mention, poems are so mysterious. The never-ending plea for peace and the uneasiness of social interactions. Maybe I'll go buy all of Emily dickinson's poems and attempt her poetry. But she was just so sad all the time. No, I will try this because I do want life to slow down. I want to make life seem slower.
Poetry it is.
